Aim & Scope

Digital Archiving and Preservation
The content of Trends in Pediatrics is archived through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), which provides permanent archiving for academic journals. PKP PN utilizes the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) program to ensure decentralized and distributed preservation of content. This program guarantees continuous access to the original and unaltered version of the journal, ensuring long-term access. Trends in Pediatrics is an open access journal. All articles are published under the terms of th Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium or format, provided the original work is properly cited. Authors retain copyright of their published article. Open access ensures more reuse and citation, higher visibility and discoverability, greater engagement, immediate impact, increased interdisciplinary work and wider collaboration.
Trends in Pediatrics adopts the Open Access Declaration published by the Budapest Open Access Initiative in February, 2002:
“By ‘open access’ to this [research] literature, we mean its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself. The only constraint on reproduction and distribution and the only role for copyright in this domain should be to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited.”
The publisher guarantees not to charge any reader or library a subscription fee and a fee for access to published electronic articles.

Article Processing Charges (APC)
Trends in Pediatrics is an open access journal. Until 1 July 2026, the journal did not levy any charges on authors. As of 1 July 2026, an Article Processing Charge (APC) applies to manuscripts accepted for publication, in order to cover the costs of editorial management, peer review administration, copyediting, typesetting, DOI registration, digital archiving, and permanent open access hosting.
There is no submission fee. The APC is invoiced only after a manuscript has been accepted for publication following peer review. Manuscripts that are rejected or withdrawn are not charged.

Editorials, letters to the editor, and other non-peer-reviewed editorial content are published free of charge.
Payment
Following acceptance, the corresponding author receives an invoice together with payment instructions. Publication proceeds once payment has been completed. The APC applies per accepted manuscript, regardless of article length or the number of authors.
Effect on editorial decisions
The APC has no influence on the editorial process. All manuscripts are evaluated solely on their scientific merit through double-blind peer review. Editors and reviewers are not informed of an author's payment status, and the ability or inability to pay the APC plays no role in any editorial decision.
Waivers and discounts
The journal is committed to ensuring that the APC does not act as a barrier to publication. Full or partial waivers may be granted for authors who lack access to research funding, and for authors based in low-income and lower-middle-income countries. Waiver requests should be submitted to the editorial office at [email protected] at the time of submission and are assessed independently of the peer review process by the editorial office, not by the handling editor.
Other charges
No fee or compensation is paid to authors, editors, or reviewers for published or reviewed articles. Readers and libraries are never charged for access to published content, and no colour figure, page, or supplementary material charges apply.
Financial Statement
Trends in Pediatrics is supported by the Aydın Pediatric Society and, as of 1 July 2026, by Article Processing Charges levied on accepted manuscripts. These sources together ensure the sustainability and uninterrupted publication of the journal. Revenue sources have no bearing on editorial decisions.
Sponsorship
Trends in Pediatrics accepts sponsorships from external entities to support the journal's operations. However, such sponsorships do not influence editorial decisions, and all content is developed based solely on scientific merit. The journal maintains full editorial independence, ensuring that sponsorships do not compromise the integrity of the published material.
